RAGPS Fundraiser - Ongoing
Take home a plant that once lived with Sigmund and Anna Freud!
Ann Betz, LCSW, a long-time former board member, is hosting an ongoing fundraiser to support the work of RAGPS, specifically by creating a fund to assist in providing reduced conference fees to early career professionals or others who identify need.
In November 2019, Ann purchased a cutting, just one leaf + stem, which had not rooted yet, from the Freud Museum in London for 40 pounds. Most of the plants in the Freud home were owned and taken care of by Anna Freud. The begonia is in the entry foyer, easily seen by patrons of the museum. The newspaper clipping tells the story. The museum staff told her that she was the first visitor to attempt to bring a cutting back to the United States. She has been rooting cuttings and sharing them ever since.

FREUD ANGEL WING BEGONIA
From Wikipedia: “Angel wing begonias are hybrid cane Begonias which resulted from a cross between Begonia aconitifolia and B. coccinea. The hybridization was made by California plant breeder Eva Kenworthy Gray in 1926. The name derives from their pointed leaves. The flowers are edible, with a sweet tart taste.”

Ann had the idea that the cuttings would be a good way to raise money for RAGPS. The plant is easy to care for and propagate. They make wonderful gifts for mental health professionals or anyone interested in having a plant that once lived with Sigmund and Anna Freud.
The $40.00 purchase of a rooted stem with leaves will contribute to the operation of RAGPS. Local pick-up in Rochester at Ann's office at 190 Goodman Street South can be arranged at no cost. Alternatively, cuttings can be shipped by UPS Second Day Air for $15.00. A photograph of the newspaper article and a link to care and propagation instructions will be provided upon purchase. Cuttings will be sold as they are ready. Pot not included. |
